About three years ago, I was working with a business coach who helped me immensely and, in many ways, became my mentor. He asked me if I ever had considered doing the kind of work that he was doing – coaching other leaders and helping them get better.

It was an idea that I had considered, but that conversation was the spark – I was introduced to some potential clients and re-connected with a colleague whose group of advisors found success using a specific methodology.

It struck me then that the biggest value that I could offer was not that I had everything figured out, but rather, that I had failed. What I learned when things didn’t go as expected provided me insights that I could apply to helping others.

My focus was, and still is, on overcoming the barriers to growth. So many leaders have trouble as their businesses grow because the things that made them great entrepreneurs don’t necessarily make them good at managing more complex organizations.

When a company is successful enough to grow from start-up to say $50M per year, that organization’s leadership team needs a lot of help.  When I started working with these kinds of leaders, I also found the work to be extremely fulfilling. I love the opportunity to help people figure out where they are at… and where they are going.

Helping leaders figure out how to build the next version of their leadership capability is satisfying for me and is really critical for their success. A high-performing leadership team…combined with a great culture … means success no matter the industry!

I recently spoke with Scott Becker about my journey, my approach, and the work that I love to do.
